one of my numerous rejects
up and down of another sort
When I picked Vivaldi's Four Seasons - Summer - Presto, I knew exactly what I had in mind. It took me back to grad school....and teenagers. The constant rushing to and fro....the brief moments of calm....and then more rushing. I biked a lot in grad school, like everyone in Davis, and it was sort of analogous to the music, too. Up a hill, down a hill, straight away.....and then I read Kate Themel's posts and wondered if our ideas might be converging. Which at one level I found really interesting, that it would conjure similar images/sensations.
But, I thought I'd listen more and see if it took me somewhere new. Up and down of another sort. But that wasn't quite doing it for me. Actually, I liked the bike better:)
Finally, I sat in the dark and listened over and over a half dozen times and tried to just feel the music and not create a story in my mind....which was difficult. Though I'm not much of a writer, everything seems to have a story.
the final start
So, I've settled on something I like. It captures the music for me and despite efforts to move away from my original ideas, it maintains a lot of the same content.
I'm really looking forward to seeing how we've each interpreted this music experience in our artwork.
